LaReina Ranch is
the culmination of a dream. It had been many years since
I had owned a horse, but the desire had never
diminished. When Lamar and I purchased our property and
built LaReina Ranch, the opportunity
presented itself for me to purchase a wonderful,
dead-broke 25 year old Quarter Horse gelding. "Bud" was
originally from Texas, brought to GA by a friend of ours and worked most of his life
on the Team Penning circuit. Our dear friend, Mr. Jimmy
King, knew that Bud was perfect for reintroducing
me to horses, but while his training was top notch his
gaits were too harsh for me to really enjoy riding. |

We
decided to buy another horse to keep Bud company. Bud will
ALWAYS have a home with us, but this time we wanted to find something a little more
comfortable to ride. Your bones just can’t handle the jarring
motion of the trot like you can when you are young! So, the
search began for a gaited horse. I saw an ad for a little
buckskin tobiano Walking Horse gelding and decided to go and
try him out.
Believe
me, the saying that “To Ride One Is To Buy One” is as true as
it gets. I had the man bring him home for me that day. I just
could not believe that all of those years of trotting and
jarring could have been easily prevented with the RIGHT breed!
